Academics

The foundation of Marquette Catholic High School's academic program is based on the preparation of the student for success in a higher educational setting or in a technical career. By maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning, the school provides students with an opportunity to grow, learn and develop to their fullest potential.

Academically, there's something for everyone at Marquette Catholic High School. The Honors Program is designed to challenge the student in content, standards and classroom expectations. Students are admitted to the program based upon their placement exam scores, the recommendation of their elementary school and parental consent. Students are to maintain a 3.500 G.P.A. in order to remain in the program (25.5 credits are required for graduation).

The College Preparatory Program is designed for students who plan to go on to college and who wish to gain a solid foundation in the academic disciplines (22.5 credits are required for graduation). Students coming out of this program will have all the required courses for admittance into the Illinois university system.

The General Studies Program is recommended for students who need remediation in the area of reading, language skills, and/or math.

The Advanced Placement Program presently offers English Literature & Composition, Calculus, and U.S. Government to motivated students who qualify.

A variety of vocational courses are offered in cooperation with the local public school. Some courses are partnered through Lewis & Clark Community College.

Marquette Catholic High School's teachers provide a disciplined environment that is both nurturing and structured. The MCHS faculty and staff meets all criteria for accreditation. State certificates are held by the faculty in their respective academic fields. Our students consistently score above national and local norms on standardized tests.

Graduation Requirements

All students must take and pass: Religion I-IV, English I-IV, Composition, Consumer Education, Health, U.S. History, U.S. Government & Constitution Exam, and Physical Education I-III.

All students must take and receive credit in the following subject areas: 3 credits in Math, 1 credit in Fine Arts, 1 credit in Social Studies, 1 credit in Lab Sciences, Summer Reading Program, and 80 hours of community service. Ninety-five percent of MCHS graduates go on to further their education at the college level or technical schools.
