ALTON — The ninth annual Marquette Run Till You’re Blue 5k fun run is set for Saturday. May 7.
The 8 a.m. race is a 3.1-mile run and a 2-mile walk that benefits Marquette Catholic High School. This year Marquette is adding a 1-mile and a ½-mile race for children that starts at 8:45 a.m. so parents can run their race and then watch their kids. Also new this year is a visit from the bubble bus.
The race starts and ends at the school, 219 E. Fourth St., and winds through Middletown Alton. About 200 people took part in the race last year. There are medals for all age groups from grade school to seniors.
“This is a very family-oriented event,” race director Meg Miller said. “We love it when people bring their kids or push them in strollers. The addition of the bubble bus will make it much more festive and fun. But don’t get us wrong; the race is competitive as well. This year we will offer timing chips for the runners so the timing will be very accurate. There are medals for each age group and of course Duke’s doughnuts at the end. I think that’s what people really come back for.”
All participants will receive a short-sleeved microfiber shirt sponsored by OSF St. Anthony’s Health Center. The color of shirts is called power blue this year. There will be other goodies at the end of the race and a chance to go home with some hardware. The race is also sponsored by Dr. Stephanie Monroe with River Bend Chiropractic Center, Gerard Fischer at American Family Insurance, The Bridge Church, Infinity Professional Services Group, Alton Podiatry Clinic, Dr. Bruce Vest, Duke Bakery, Nautilus, Hawthorne Animal Hospital, Gent Funeral Home and Altonized Federal Credit Union.
The cost to participate is $15 for children, $20 for students, $25 for adults and $65 for a family. To register, visit marquettecatholic.org/funrun or call (618) 463-0585 ext. 2.
